Egyptian Journalist

Became Political Asylum-seeker in South Korea

Written by Amira

I woke up on 28 January 2011 to find myself can not prevent myself from going down the street with the rest of youth to oppose all the injustice and corruption in my country. I participated in the revolution since this moment and for 7 years fight all peaceful ways against unjustice through all systems which has come since this history has occupied the press in more than one site Lamtp articles political opinion against all this injustice in all the vigils and demonstrations.

I am Amira from Egypt. I am a journalist and a single mother for two girls Amy and Rana, which were always my goal in the revolution to make them an environment and community free of corruption and injustice. I wanted them a quiet life, but the Egyptian regime Did not leave me. But I was arrested for the first time on April 10, 2016 for my objection to the sale of the islands of Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia during my participation in a protest. Then I filed a case against President Sisi and the Prime Minister on the pretext of selling the two islands to Saudi Arabia. And I did not sell them but the Egyptian parliament opposed all the laws and agreed to sell the islands.

Then I was arrested again June 29, 2018 I and 5 of my friends to oppose the system and was imprisoned for two months and then came out on 31/8/2018. I find months later The referral of my case to the State Security Emergency is a new law Issued by the Sisi to retaliate against all ranks of the opposition, which makes the ruling by a non-appeal or the opposition does not fall statute of limitations.

Making my future, my daughter and threatened to risk and become a prison for years is inevitable. But came on 28/1/2018 and changed the course of my life Secondly, the date of this day has become a turning point in my life. I traveled on this day, and I kept moving from state to state. I do not know what my fate is, I and my daughters, but I decided come to Korea on 12/3/2018 to seek political asylum, which is inevitable.

To protect me and my daughters and to live in peace I was eliminated at the airport until 20/3/1/2018 then I came to Korea to find a beautiful country where I finally found hope of being safe. Its people are simple and quiet. State law and this is all I wish in life for me and my daughters.

But I was shocked by the reality where I found many asylum seekers who have been fighting for years to accept the request for their asylum, which was returned for reasons unreasonable. Where I found that the rate of acceptance of applications for asylum in Korea does not exceed 5%, although there are a lot of requests for asylum, but most real deserve to accept.

I find myself again to get the rights of others, but this time in another country. Always ask what is fate I and my daughters are in Korea and my destiny is to ask for asylum. I am very confident that in my case, asylum will be a necessity. But what will happen to me and my daughters if the request is returned for no reason like what happened with others?
